Effective May 1 , 2018 the minimum biodiesel content level in Diesel Fuel sold in Minnesota for combustion engines is increasing to 20 %. This is determined by the Minnesota statute 239.77 Biodiesel Content mandate . Here is a quick overview of the B20 mandate :
April 1 through April 30 , 2018 : all # 2 diesel fuel sold for combustion engines must contain at least 10 % biodiesel .
Starting May 1 , 2018 through Sept . 30 , 2018 : all # 2 diesel sold for combustion engines must contain a minimum of 20 % biodiesel .
Oct . 1 , 2018 through March 31 , 2019 : all # 2 diesel fuel sold for combustion engines must contain at least 5 % biodiesel . The amount of biodiesel required in a blend of # 1 / # 2 diesel will depend upon the blend ratio of the two products . # 1 diesel fuel at this time is exempt from blending with biodiesel yearround until further notice .
April 1 through Sept . 30 , 2019 : all # 2 diesel fuel sold for combustion engines during this time must contain a minimum of 20 % biodiesel .
