Studies in Children’s Care & Development
Fantastic opportunities for practical work placements in an established network of schools and nurseries, as well as expert tuition.
All childcare courses provide child development and childcare theory from birth to eight years. Each course has a large practical element during which students gain ‘hands-on’ experience in day nurseries, schools, playgroups and with childminders. The students also take part in visits related to ‘how children learn’ i.e. The Eureka Museum, Halifax and The Science and Industry Museum, Manchester. There will be some physical activity on the course to enable students to understand the importance of exercise to children and families. Classrooms have a state-of-theart virtual learning environment, including cots and baby changing facilities. The College has close links with a wide range of employers; guest speakers from community organisations and nurseries who attend lectures and talk to the students about industry experience, vacancies and work placements, which helps to broaden the students’ understanding of childcare services. In addition, visits are included to local universities, such as Chester, Edge Hill and Stafford.

Nursery Officer in the Social Services, Children’s Courier, Nursery Supervisor, Crèche, Playgroup or Pre-School Leader, Childminder, Nanny, Classroom Assistant, Primary School Teacher.
BTEC Diploma in Health & Social Care (Level 1)
Length of Course 1 year Course Includes * Health or childcare career training. * Health and social care, child development, human growth, food and nutrition, health and safety and play. * Numeracy, IT and literacy skill development.
BTEC Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning & Development (Level 2)
Length of Course 1 year Course Includes * Working with children and babies, child safety, play and physical care of the developing child, childhood illness and preparation for employment. * Work experience. * Numeracy, IT and literacy skill development.
BTEC Extended Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning & Development (Level 3)
Length of Course 2 years – equivalent to 3 GCE A levels Course Includes * Equality of opportunity, growth and development, healthcare, first aid, play, education, early years curriculum, social and legal aspects, special needs, working with parents, language development, food and nutrition and child protection. * Work placements, with an age group of 0-8 years (2 days a week throughout the course).
