INFO RMATION FOR PARE NTS/ GUA MID CHES HIRE COL LEGE – SCH OOL LEAV ERS’ PRO SPEC TUS 2014 ENTR Y RDIA NS Information for Parents/Guardians We do our utmost to ensure every student has a quality learning experience. Prior to applying for a place at the College, all potential students will be given plenty of opportunities to find out about Mid Cheshire College and the courses on offer. In school the Careers Advisors will have details on all of our courses. Potential students will also be offered impartial advice and guidance from specialist Career Officers at the College. The College also offers a taster day to all Year 11 pupils, to enable them to experience their preferred course in a classroom/ workshop situation, and get an idea of what the course is really like before they start College. This will be held on Tuesday 1st July 2014. Study Programmes – The Learner Entitlement All full-time learners aged 16-19 will be enrolled on to a bespoke Study Programme which has been specifically designed to meet their needs and aspirations. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. Core Programme i.e. BTEC Level 3 Ext. If you miss any of the above events, please telephone the College on 01606 74444 and an appointment can be made for you to have a look around and get some advice and guidance at any time. Smartphone App Information can also be accessed via the College’s Smartphone App, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Android Market. Once Applied Applications are based on predicted GCSE results. Your son or daughter will need to apply early in Year 11 to ensure that they give themselves enough time to get the advice and guidance they’ll need to ensure they choose the right course for them. They will be invited to an interview, which you can also attend. The College has an open access policy and for some courses there are no entry requirements. For others, the courses have very specific entry requirements, and although the College can offer a provisional place based on predicted GCSE grades, enrolment on their course of choice can only take place after they have received their GCSE results (on Thursday 21st August 2014). English/Maths* Tutorial 14 Open Evenings The College Open Evenings for Year 11 pupils will be held at Hartford Campus on Monday 7th October and Wednesday 27th November 2013 from 6.00pm – 8.30pm. Winsford Campus on Tuesday 29th October 2013 from 6.00pm – 8.00pm and Saturday 15th March 2014 from 10.00am – 12 noon. This is a chance to see the College, meet the staff and see the outstanding facilities for yourself. Experienced tutors and the Admissions team will also be on hand to provide information on the qualifications and the courses available. INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS Enrichment Social Development Pre-booked interviews will also take place on the same dates for those individuals who have completed an application for a specific course. * s part of this, learners are A required to develop their English and maths skills. This is covered both through their main core qualification and through additional study of either Functional Skills or GCSEs. 15 INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS Advice and Guidance Sessions and Interview Evenings In addition to the Open Evenings, the College holds regular advice and guidance sessions on Thursday evenings between 7.00pm and 8.00pm. These are designed for anyone who hasn’t yet decided which course they would like to do and to gain specific information on the types of qualifications and courses available. Employability Skills
