SUPP ORT FOR STUD ENTS
Financial Support
Why spend your entire student
loan on accommodation and
survival away from home when
Mid Cheshire College can offer
you a more economical and
flexible alternative!
If you already live in Cheshire
West and Chester or the
surrounding area, then you will
be aware that there are good
road and rail links to the College,
making it easy and inexpensive
to get here from home. If, on the
other hand, you are considering
living away from home, you will
find that accommodation and
living expenses in the area, which
is predominantly rural, are much
cheaper than the equivalent in a
city. Details of local letting agents
are available.
Loans and Grants
You should apply online to Student
Finance England at www.gov.uk/
students-finance; they will decide
whether you are eligible for support
for a maintenance loan, tuition fee
loan or any other grants.

Maintenance Loan
If you are under 60 and studying a
full-time course and you meet the
residency requirements, you may
be eligible for a maintenance loan.
This is to help with living costs such
as accommodation, food, clothes,
travel etc. This loan is repayable
at a low interest rate once you
are earning over £21,000 per year.
Once you have enrolled and started
on your course, you need to come
to Finance to activate your loan,
which will then be paid into your
bank account each term.
Maintenance Grant
This is a non-repayable grant for
full-time students. The amount you
receive depends on your household
income and whether you are living
at home, away or in London. For
latest information on income levels
log on to www.gov.uk/studentsfinance. Grants are paid into your
bank account each term. If you are
over 60 a special support grant is
available, please ask for details.
SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS
Please note that if you are
claiming any benefits, receipt of
HE funding can have an impact on
these. You should discuss this with
your benefit provider.

Tuition Fee Loan
Tuition fees can be covered by a low
cost loan, which you will only repay
once you have left higher education
and started earning more than
£21,000 per year. Once granted, the
Student Loans Company will pay
your fees to the College. The FdA
Supporting Teaching & Learning is
a part-time course and can only be
supported by a Tuition Fee loan.
Access to Learning Fund
This is available through the
College and provides help for
students on low income who
may need extra financial support
for their course to stay in higher
education. The College will decide
whether you are able to get this
help and if so, how much you can
receive; this will depend on your
own circumstances.
