SUPP ORT FOR STUD ENTS Financial Support Why spend your entire student loan on accommodation and survival away from home when Mid Cheshire College can offer you a more economical and flexible alternative! If you already live in Cheshire West and Chester or the surrounding area, then you will be aware that there are good road and rail links to the College, making it easy and inexpensive to get here from home. If, on the other hand, you are considering living away from home, you will find that accommodation and living expenses in the area, which is predominantly rural, are much cheaper than the equivalent in a city. Details of local letting agents are available. Loans and Grants You should apply online to Student Finance England at www.gov.uk/ students-finance; they will decide whether you are eligible for support for a maintenance loan, tuition fee loan or any other grants. EDU CATI ON PRO SPEC TUS 2014 ENTR Maintenance Loan If you are under 60 and studying a full-time course and you meet the residency requirements, you may be eligible for a maintenance loan. This is to help with living costs such as accommodation, food, clothes, travel etc. This loan is repayable at a low interest rate once you are earning over £21,000 per year. Once you have enrolled and started on your course, you need to come to Finance to activate your loan, which will then be paid into your bank account each term. Maintenance Grant This is a non-repayable grant for full-time students. The amount you receive depends on your household income and whether you are living at home, away or in London. If you are over 60 a special support grant is available, please ask for details. SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS Please note that if you are claiming any benefits, receipt of HE funding can have an impact on these. You should discuss this with your benefit provider. 8 Other Grants Various other grants are available such as a Childcare Grant, Parents’ Learning Allowance, Adult Dependants’ Grant and Disabled Students’ Allowance. More details can be obtained from www.gov.uk/ student-finance/guides-and-advice Tuition Fee Loan Tuition fees can be covered by a low cost loan, which you will only repay once you have left higher education and started earning more than £21,000 per year. Once granted, the Student Loans Company will pay your fees to the College. The FdA Supporting Teaching & Learning is a part-time course and can only be supported by a Tuition Fee loan. Access to Learning Fund This is available through the College and provides help for students on low income who may need extra financial support for their course to stay in higher education. The College will decide whether you are able to get this help and if so, how much you can receive; this will depend on your own circumstances.
