PUBL IC & COM MUN ITY SERV ICES MID CHES HIRE COL LEGE – HIGH ER EDU CATI ON PRO SPEC TUS 2014 ENTR Y Public & Community Services Foundation Degree (FdA) Entry Guidelines Students need to have 3 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English, plus a minimum of 120 UCAS points from any of the following programmes: * BTEC Extended Diploma/ Certificate/Award * A/S – A Levels * AVCE Alternatively, an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or a Pass in an appropriate kite-marked Access to Higher Education course. PUBLIC & COMMUNITY SERVICES Where possible an academic or vocational reference will be required to ensure suitability for this level of programme. 36 Public & Community Services UCAS Code L540 (Validated by Manchester Metropolitan University) Attendance 2 years full time or 3-4 years part-time Students who do not meet the above admissions requirements will be considered for entry if they can demonstrate that they have the relevant vocational experience, motivation and personal qualities appropriate for Foundation Degree level work. Content Level 4 Units: * Psychology * Sociology * Teamwork and Leadership * Introduction to the Criminal Justice System Level 5 * Substance Misuse Culture and Crime * Criminology * Health, The Public and The Individual * Public and Community Services Project The programme will be taught at the Winsford campus. Facilities include a student library, computer suites, specialist public services classrooms, a fitness gym and bouldering (free climbing) wall. Students studying on the course will also have access to local public service employers and outdoor education facilities. Assessment The programme is assessed through course work and examinations. Methods of assessment will include essays, research projects, group work, practical demonstration and portfolio building. Prospects Students will have the opportunity to apply to progress on to the second or final year of an Honours Degree in a related area at any university. Students can apply to progress on to the part-time route of the BA/BSc Interdisciplinary Studies Combined Honours; subjects can be a combination of two from, Crime, Sociology, Outdoor Studies (major, minor or equal) at Manchester Metropolitan University as a top-up to Honours Degree from this Foundation Degree. Applications will be considered based on performance on Foundation Degree. Alternatively Plymouth University is offering a Level 6 top-up degree with two pathways: BSc (Hons) Public Services or BSc (Hons) Public Services (Policing).
