Entry Guidelines
* BTEC Extended Diploma in
Performing Arts at Merit grade
or above.
* Access to HE course
* GCE A Level profile, which
demonstrates a strong
performance in acting or dance.
* We will also encourage
and consider applicants
who possess a high level of
experience in performing
but may not have formal
qualifications.
* All interview candidates are
required to show two audition
pieces such as two contrasting
monologues or dance styles or
a song and dance.
Content
Students can follow two
different pathways; Acting or
Dance and study a variety of
units. The three mandatory
units are, Creative Arts
Professional Practice, Creative
Research Skills and Preparation,
Process and Production in the
Creative Arts.
The Acting pathway consists
of acting for camera, acting
for musical theatre, applied
contemporary performance
practice, classical acting, musical
theatre performance, performing
arts workshop leadership,
research project, movement for
the actor, singing for musical
theatre, theatre directing and
vocal method in context.
The Dance pathway consists
of tap dance technique and
performance, jazz dance
technique and performance,
research project, site specific
performance, small scale
touring in the performing
arts, choreography of group
performance, choreography
for solo performance,
classical ballet background
and technique, classical
ballet development and
analysis, commercial dance,
contemporary dance
technique, contemporary
dance techniques and
performance, dance and health
and dance for camera.
Assessment
A range of assessment
methods will be used, including
presentations, workshops,
performances, academic essays
and work-based projects.
Prospects
Students may continue
their studies at national
Universities. There would
also be the opportunity
to audition for prestigious
Dance and Drama Schools.
Other students may be
successful in obtaining
employment within the
performing arts business.
PERFORMING ARTS
The course has been designed
to equip students with the
knowledge, understanding and
skills required for success in
current and future employment
or for progression to an
undergraduate degree course at
university. Some learners may wish
to make the commitment within
Performing Arts and become
professional Performers.
