GRA PHIC DESI GN MID CHES HIRE COL LEGE – HIGH ER EDU CATI ON PRO SPEC TUS 2014 ENTR Y Graphic Design Foundation Degree (FdA) This programme takes the view that Graphic Design is fundamentally a creative problem solving activity, underpinned by in-depth research, critical analysis and reflection upon the needs of others and the demands of the brief. The course enables students to develop their specialist areas or to retain a broader perspective. Students have the opportunity to work in the specialist accommodation in the Arts & Creative Media building, providing the highest levels of education and training, tailored to the needs of industry. Graphic Design GRAPHIC DESIGN UCAS Code W210 (Validated by University of Chester) 28 Attendance 2 years full-time or 3–4 years part-time Entry Guidelines Students need to have 3 GCSEs at grade C or above, plus a minimum of 120 UCAS points from any of the following programmes: * BTEC Extended Diploma/ Certificate/Award * A/S –A Levels * AVCE Alternatively, an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or a Pass in an appropriate kite-marked Access to Higher Education course. Where possible an academic or vocational reference will be required to ensure suitability for this level of programme. Students who do not meet the above admissions requirements will be considered for entry if they can demonstrate that they have the relevant vocational experience, motivation and personal qualities appropriate for Foundation Degree level work. Content Level 4 The emphasis will be on the application of knowledge, skills and understanding, use of conventions in the field of study, use of analytical skills and selection and organisation of information. How to use idea generation techniques, basic and creative typographic skills, presentation of work to industry accepted standards, the use of industry-standard computer software, web page design, contextual studies and work experience through placement. Six modules are taken at Level 4: * Idea Generation * Typography Theory and Design * Computer Applications * Historical and Contextual Referencing * Work Placement/ Professional Studies * Visual Communication Students need to successfully complete all modules before progressing to Level 5.
