ENG INEE RING MID CHES HIRE COL LEGE – HIGH ER EDU CATI ON PRO SPEC TUS 2014 ENTR Y Engineering This programme prepares learners for employment in the Engineering sector or further study at university. Learners who are already employed in the Engineering sector will be able to study for a qualification that will support their career progression. UCAS Code HNC 000H HND 003H ENGINEERING Attendance Learners will study for the HNC in year 1 and on successful completion can progress to HND in year 2. The course will be offered over 2 days a week for learners not currently employed in the Engineering sector, or 1 day and 1 evening for those currently employed in the industry. 24 Entry Guidelines * BTEC Extended Diploma or equivalent Level 3 course in Engineering (with some units at merit level) * GCE A Level profile, preferably to include maths or science subjects * Access HE course, preferably to include maths and science subjects * Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that will include current work experience in an Engineering environment Content A variety of units will be studied that will prepare students for progression within the many areas of Engineering. Topics include: Engineering Science, maths and analytical methods, computer aided design technologies, project design, electronic, electrical and digital principles, electrical power systems, materials engineering, mechanical principles and personal and professional development. Assessment A range of assessment methods will be used, including reports and presentations, academic essays and workrelated projects. Assessment will be continual throughout the course. Prospects A key progression for the HND is to a Degree programme, depending on the University chosen this may be direct entry to either the second or third year. Learners may also seek employment as an engineer/ technician in a variety of industries.
