Art & Design students have the opportunity to work in various media in the state-of-the-art, purpose built, Arts & Creative Media building, which boasts a range of spacious art studios, ceramics and multi-material studios. The students’ achievements are outstanding with excellent progression to higher education and employment. The College has close links with local universities, including Chester, Manchester Metropolitan, Salford and Liverpool. Students have also gained places at the highly regarded Goldsmiths University and Central St Martins in London. BTEC Diploma in Content This programme will give you a broad based experience in art and design, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, 3D design, textile design and graphic design, with supporting studies of art history and life drawing. Through tutorial guidance and practical experience students eventually elect to work in one particular area of study. Learning and Assessment Learning is through tutorials, consultation, and practical studies/workshop lectures and a personal written reflective diary. Formal assessment during the first two terms will allow you to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and assist you to make the appropriate applications to Higher Education. There is a final major project assessed by exhibition. Prospects Students can progress on to do a Degree, Foundation Degree or HND in a range of specialist studies, such as graphic design, 3D design, fashion/textile design or fine art. A number of students each year are guaranteed places at Manchester Metropolitan or Salford Universities to which the course is affiliated. This programme prepares learners for employment in the Fine Art sector or a placement at university. The course has been designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment or for progression to an undergraduate degree course at university. Some learners may wish to make the commitment within Fine Art and become professional artists. The course combines both traditional and contemporary approaches to fine art. You will research and discover the approaches used by practitioners both today and historically, thus informing your own artistic production.
