ACC ESS TO HIGH ER EDU CATI ON Library Central There are libraries at both of the College sites and students are welcome to visit either library regardless of their course or place of study. Please contact the Library on 01606 720646 or library@ midchesh.ac.uk for opening hours. A wide range of books, CDs, DVDs, journals, magazines and newspapers are available in the libraries as well as space and individual computer access for private study. A variety of online resources are available through our Library Central Moodle pages. Students can also access excellent library facilities at the University of Chester and Manchester Metropolitan University. EDU CATI ON PRO SPEC TUS 2014 ENTR Y Social & Rec Scene – Beyond your course Hartford Campus has a ‘Rec Zone’ where students can relax, play games, watch films and listen to music. Students attending the Winsford Campus can relax and meet friends in the Atrium Café and can surf the net in the ‘Internet Café’ or library. Get Involved in College Life The College encourages student involvement at all levels. This ranges from commenting on how well your lessons help you learn and your experiences at College, to involvement with the recruitment of staff and being represented on College committees and the Governing Body. Dedicated HE Study Areas are available at The Cube in the library at Winsford Campus and The Silent Room in the library at Hartford Campus – students can work and reserve computer access. Students have an active Student Union, which all students are automatically members of, and which is affiliated to the National Union of Students. They organise social activities, charity events, clubs and societies, and so on, and have a Student Council which meets once a term and advises College Managers. The National Union of Students also arranges national and international discounts on behalf of students, which can be accessed by buying one of their NUS Extra Cards. This can be purchased in college or online, www.nus.org.uk Lunchtime access to the fitness suite is available at both the Hartford and Winsford sites. Lunchtime activities in the sports hall at Hartford include dance, 5-a-side football and basketball. Students also have access to the University Student Union clubs and facilities of Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Chester. SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS If you feel you missed out by not going to university but don’t have the formal qualifications, then the Access to Higher Education course will be perfect for you. * The Access course is a Level 3 course for adults with experience of life * Entry criteria: Applicants should be able to provide evidence of academic achievement at Level 2, which is the equivalent of GCSEs. Life and work experience will also be taken into account * Our Access students have successfully progressed on to courses in teaching, nursing, social work, business and many other university courses * You study full-time (approximately 9.30am - 3.00pm, 4 days per week) for one year on this programme * Topics include core skills plus a selection of relevant Level 3 subjects, such as Biology, Psychology and Sociology * Course fee on application. Counselling A confidential service is provided by our qualified counsellors. Childcare Information on the extensive range of local childcare services is available, call 01606 720649. 10 Access to Higher Education Snacks and Meals A variety of meals and snacks can be purchased from the Food Court and Restaurant at Hartford and the Atrium Café at the Winsford Campus.
