The fight against the Ebola virus is more than a fight against a disease—it is a fight against myths and mistruths, fears and phobias, hysteria and history. In the scientific community, there is some concern that medical conspiracy beliefs threaten to undermine rational and scientific responses to the Ebola crisis in West Africa. But conspiracies are not only “wild theories” in the minds of “crazy people.” In the legal world, a conspiracy can also be a criminal act where two or more people agree to commit a crime in the future.
