National
Meeting
2015
At the 2012 National Meeting in Hobart
there was talk of the 2013 meeting
in Toowoomba perhaps being the last
National Meeting. We Victorians were
not having any of that and put ourselves
forward for the 2015 meeting and the
Gold Coast Club then volunteered to run
a reduced meeting at Ballina in 2014. This
was by way of an experiment to see if
there would be support for a ‘NatMeet Lite’
with only a Concours and 2 Observation
runs competed for, and all social events
save the farewell breakfast.
150 people and 92 cars turned up and
the concept was voted a success. The 17
people who attended from our Club had
a great time and brought home some
silverware as well!
Easter 2014 and the Ballina ‘Mini’
National Meeting are now behind us and
we can concentrate on organizing our
2015 meeting which we will be basing
in the Yarra Valley. This gives us an
ideal opportunity to show off our ‘happy
hunting ground’ with its great touring
roads and refreshment stops, and also to
showcase and use our pride and joy –
Historic Rob Roy. Our aim is to contain
the costs of the meeting and we hope
that the use of our soon to be ready

Clubrooms and Historic Rob Roy, together
with dropping one social event, will assist
us in this aim. We are hoping to arrange
some discounted dining packages for our
guests who will have a little more free
time than usual to sample what our Yarra
Valley has to offer.
We have also capped the meeting at 400
entries and believe we will get close to
this number. This is seen as a manageable
number for both competition and for the
social functions. We will be dropping
the Theme Night and this will be partly
replaced by additions to the Noggin-nNatter, to be held in the Clubrooms, where
Social Director Maree Rowley and MC for
the meeting, Steve Begley, are planning
an Olympic style opening ceremony. The
flame bit is presenting a challenge, but
watch this space.
My Deputy is Michael Herlihy. Graeme
Adams is heading up the Competition
side of our meeting with the Concours
to be held at Rochford wines under the
direction of Paul Vermont – part of our
intention to show off the Yarra Valley.
The Motorkhana, under Rob Forster’s
care, is to be held at the METEC Driver
Training Centre in Bayswater North. Mike
Ellsmore will be looking after the Hillclimb
