Elegance at one of our regular meet-
ings. The judging being done in the ser-
vice dept downstairs whilst we had our
regular meeting upstairs. The runaway
winner was Don Offler in his immaculate
cream TF . he had even fitted lights into
the bonnet catches lighting up the en-
gine bay .
“Murphy” came to play that year for me
creating the worst event and subse-
quent resulting sale in my motoring jour-
ney. On the way home from a monthly
meeting I ran into the back of a taxi pul-
verising the radiator and bending the
front section of chassis along with
breaking my arm on the dashboard .I
pushed the car into the shed thinking
that’s that its beyond repair. It turns out
taking the first offer and selling the car
was my greatest mistake. The car was
repaired and a sporty body was fitted
and now resides in Victoria and owned
by Graeme Davies .(he Has 2 !! )
Looking for a replacement for the F a
little while later a friend pointed out the
Green TF that I had seen and talked
about many times was now for sale at
one week from Hannan Bros. . I would fit
the pump (not work) push it down the
road call the RAA . they confirm pump
failure I would push the car home
again ! . I think it was the 4th time the
RAA guy was waiting for me and sug-
gested he would like to reset it with my
approval ….go for it !
Problem solved but I got a letter from the
RAA asking me to make the car reliable
or quit the RAA.
Anyhow when the car was inoperative ! I
would ride my push bike from Parkside
in about 10 minutes to the city and the
MGCC meetings , hide the bike around
the corner and walk in as if I had driven.
The monthly meetings at Motors limited
in 1958 provided me with many good
memories including the viewing of one of
the first MGA Coupes . a Dark Blue with
Grey trim and admired by all .
Then the arrival of the famous MG
EX181 “Roaring Raindrop” we all
crawled over it for some time .This car
set records for speed …..258 MPH with
Stirling Moss at the wheel . Around That
time the club ran its first Concours De
