June 2018 Nick Micklem Dean Hosking John Davies The MG car club this year fielded a Team of 5 cars and yes it did include an MG, Nick Micklem's MG ZR. Other teams' members were Jason Edwards in his Lotus Exige, Chris Hunt in his club- man and Dean Hosking and John Da- vies in their Toyota 86's. Well I borrowed mine from my wife (can I please borrow your car for a quiet Sunday Drive in the country I asked) For this event you not only need drivers but also a support crew and we had a great team in Faye Edwards and Mi- chael Bugg doing the timing, Dick Man- ning, Jamie, Alan Cardnell, Tony Freckelton and Rob Hall doing pit wall and sash changeover as well as Chris Bray and Bev assisting Sue with the event timing ( a couple of extra Bonus laps would have been nice Bev) deciding on the times to nominate for the day. The objective for each driver is to nominate a lap time and circulate to within 1 second of that time without go- ing under (Breakout). If achieved this will accrue a Bonus Lap. With a field of 25 teams it would mean plenty of traffic to contend with and as we were starting from row 3 on the grid we elected to start Jason as he has one of the quickest cars in the field. This strategy worked well and Jason was soon in the groove and putting down regular Bonus laps. With a five car team we had elected to run each car for 2 stints of 30-40 minutes. Jason pitting to hand over to Chris after 25 Laps. Chris was also soon putting in regular Bonus Laps for his first stint until being brought in when a Safety Car was brought out. Nick was our 3rd car out and although competing in his first 6Hr he was soon lapping well with regular bonus laps. Dean followed then John to complete our first stint for each driver. Jason then did his 2nd stint before handing over to Chris who had to be at the airport by late afternoon to fly back to NSW (Oh, the tough life of the fly in race car driver) then Nick, Dean and John completed their 2nd stints and the flag fell at 5pm after a very long day. For this years event we did not experience any car issues and finished with all cars still running and with all drivers lapping well and getting regular Bonus laps. So how did we think we would finish. In the tradition of this event a team dinner is held on Track to include the results and presentations. Team MG finished a very good 4th with an overall percentage of 53.7083% just 0.057% behind the 3rd placed team. This was less than a 1/10th of a lap be- Practice commenced at 9am and we all hind and also only a small margin be- had at least 4 laps of practice before hind 2nd place. 33
