June 2018 VALE. JEFF REDMAN 1942– 2018 The MG Car Club Hunter Region has sent this obituary to one of their long term members who was a regular atten- dee at MG Club National Meetings and known to many of our SA members. Here is an abridged version...Editor Jeff Redman was born during the Sec- ond World War in 1942. He grew up in a group that have many stories about do- ing fun things to cars, in cars and with cars. In 1966 Jeff started his association with the MG Marque with the purchase of an MGTC. This car had history. It competed as the Red Cigar, a monoposto bodied, supercharged race car in several Australian Grand Prix’s. After a crash, the stream lined body was written off and replaced by a semi standard version and this is the way it was when Jeff took over as custodian. Jeff purchased pile of parts as spares for 31 the TC but decided he had enough to build another MG. This ended up as their cream & brown TA (finished in 1978). A few years later Jeff met Merryl and she remembers trips to hill climbs and sprints at Amaroo and Oran Park. Jeff joined the MG Car Club (Newcastle) and ran the TC at King Edward Park Hill Climb and other local events as well as MG National Meetings. Jeff and Merryl’s first Nat Meet was in the inaugural one in 78 at Vaucluse House. They didn’t enter that one but were official entrants in the TA at the 79 meeting in Ballarat. Jeff joined the Newcastle Sporting Car Club, back to Newcastle MGCC and then was foundation member #2 of the MGCC Hunter Region when the club was formed in 1978. After many years and numerous committee positions, Jeff joined the Morris Owners Club. In 1988 we all saw a large pile of rusty bits at the National Meeting in Canberra. Jeff saw the potential and purchased their TA Tickford. Jeff restored it to Na- tional Concours winning standard. Jeff passed away in April this year.
