10 December 2017 Register Tour Down Under
he special Register event start in
Blackwood OTR at 8.00am saw 25 members and their cars assembled for the drop of the flag at 8:30am .
Late comers included Ray Finch ceremoniously driven in the Porsche 944T by Andrew Willington and Russell Garth with the bride Margie in the TF , hood down and windscreen up . ( a very rare occurrence on both counts )
A sheepish Arthur Rudiger arrived in his new drop head , plush BMW 4 Series Turbo Diesel . Very comfy indeed , much trouble convincing some that it was his car .
Approximately 25 starters in various cars hit the line for the TDU run into Goolwa Beach via Coromandel Valley , Cherry Gardens , Clarendon and onto the food stop at Meadows .
Meadows feed station was a full on affair where waiting for the bulk of the TDU were the McLeans , Micklems , TD McNabb & a heap of others .
Huge mistake by the Tour Director in forgetting to warn the Meadows Bakery about the hungry and decaffeinated drivers descending upon them at 9.00am . The footpaths were lined by pastie eating , coffee drinking participants in real TDU tradition .
Once flagged off , it ’ s the Bull Creek road into Goolwa Beach where the Tickford boys were waiting with cars suitably arranged , dressed to impress the caffine charged mob . What was impressive though was Jeanette ’ s ability to marshall Don Walker and the dog in organising
26 some semblance of order in the parking arrangements out front .
Shed sniffing was the order of the day after negotiating passage pass the dog fence , the real deal was on show , the SA drophead , Don ’ s major restoration project for the next 25 years . Congratulations Don it is a really interesting and challenging project that you have in front of you .
Peter Shipside ’ s lovely WA on show out front was actually a family car handed down to him by his father . What a lucky dog compared to what is in front of the Don !
Points of interest from the meeting . Not many just a few thankfully , but check out the photos on the website . A great morning tea supplied by Don , Jeannette and friend , thanks heaps it was superb .
Inductee into the Register Hall of Fame , Raymond Finch was presented with his membership pack by Arthur , it ’ s taken a while to get him to rejoin really however he does make a significant contribution to helping members with their restorations , cars only .
Peter Baturin , club member and a TF owner from down south attended and was acknowledged . He is hoping to attend register meetings closer to home , maybe Mt Barker or Nairne in the future Ray ? Peter has worn out his handbrake ratchet and is looking for a replacement if anyone has one .( too many handbrake turns outside the bank in Strathalbyn maybe ? )
A C Pearson . com . uk . org presented his chrome wire grill headlight covers
