REPORT FROM THE MGA/
MAGNETTE ANNUAL DINNER
3 DECEMBER 2017
C
hanging the name of our get to-
gether to “Annual Dinner” paid divi-
dends. No rain for our drive to Norton
Summit from the City. I also added an
umbrella to the boot as extra karma.
Twenty eight members enjoyed a set
menu at the Scenic Hotel with a Christ-
mas theme. It was a really good turn-
out. The same cannot be said for the
number of MGA’s or Magnettes which
turned out for the evening. Only five
MGA’s and one MGB GT. The rest
were the luxurious modern sedans and
SUV’s.
Now for the excuses. Murray Stephen-
son could not get his MGA out past the
Flinders University team of up and com-
ing engineers who were building a For-
mula SAE. Also in the driveway, the
Honda, the Excel and the car trailer –
not a bad reason but I feel with a little
organization Murray could have un-
earthed the A.
Trevor and Sandi Dicker’s excuse was
the one which carried the least weight
Sandi wanted to “frock up”. Now Sandi
looked really great, but the excuse has
to rate a fail.
Alan and Raelene Semmler arrived in
the Audi. I think Alan was practising to
be a part of the Adelaide Rally the fol-
lowing weekend. Again, a fail Alan. In
addition Alan (who is my stalwart when it
comes to photographs) forgot the cam-
era. No pass mark there. At least
Raelene took photos with her trusty
phone and you can see them as part of
the article. Thank you Raelene.
Nick Micklem had the only acceptable
excuse on the night. His carburettors
are currently being rebuilt and even I
know you cannot run a car without them
– so a pass for Nick.
Recent members, James and Maria
Coote drove their recently acquired
MGA. Welcome to the Cootes, we hope
to see you at more functions.
I must thank the members who attended
the last Register meeting at Micklems
and the dinner. We had a raffle which
ran over the two nights. Thanks to the
