T
The 2018 Torsion Bar Run
his year’s Torsion Bar run was full
of apologies. So, who were they?
Well let me tell you who was there to
start with. There was Jim McCrickard in
his RED roadster, Ron Telford in his
RED GT and I was there in my RED
GTs and yes, they were all clean and
shining.
There were several apologies, Robin
was celebrating the first birthday of his
grandchild, Lynton was competing his
dogs, Dennis was in Bali and the weak-
est excuse goes to David who said he
was climbing mountains in Ireland, to be
sure, to be sure.
We left Beaumont Road in the Adelaide
Parklands and travelled along Fullarton
Road and up into the Hills passed Belair
National Park and headed to Upper
Sturt Road. We then took a right turn to
wind our way down Sturt Valley Road
and up the other side along Ironbank
Road. The torque of the big 3 litre en-
gine was quite happy pulling up the hills
in fourth gear. We turned off at Morgan
Road and on to Scott Creek then left
along Red Hill Road. The road opened
up a little through Longwood until we
turned right down Leslie Creek Road
and into Mylor to visit the Harvest Café.
We parked in front of the Memorial Hall
and walked across the road to order
coffee from the lovely Amy.
The
weather was gorgeous, so we sat out-
side in the sunshine at a rustic, chunky,
timber table. Ron must have been
watching his weight and ordered a small
biscuit while Jim was not and tucked
into a delicious teacake and I ate a col-
ourful raw something or other that was
rather tasty.
I brought along a couple of items that I
thought the MGC owners would be inter-
ested in. Earlier that week I received an
interesting document that listed the tech-
nical details of the North American
MGCs. The 13 page ‘Leyland Technical
Service Bulletin’ was from Leonia, New
Jersey, USA and covers a lot of detailed
specifications of the NA MGCs.
I also received the NZ, ‘MGC Register
Newsletter’ from Ian Grant the Secre-
tary/Historian from across the ditch
(‘dutch’ interpreted for McNobb). His
newsletters are always interesting (just
like McNobb) and includes a story about
their Register technical man who is re-
conditioning MGC water pumps for a
modest fee of $70, that would be Kiwi
dollars I guess. You can contact Harvey
Heath at Home: 09 8342552, Mobile:

[email protected] if you’re interested.
To celebrate 50 years since the first
MGC rolled off the production line, the
Kiwis have organised an 18-day M agical
G rand C ruising Tour of the South Island
that started on the 4 th November and
travelled for two days from Auckland to
Wellington. Across Cook Strait to the
South Island the tour spent the next 16
days visiting look-outs, passes and mo-
tor museums including Warbirds &
Wheels at Wanaka. They met other
MGCC members and also caught up
with Austin Healey owners along the
way.
Ian has up loaded several videos to
YouTube that he took at the MGC50 in
the UK last year. You can search for
