3rd Annual Autism Support Network Fundraiser
By Luisa Marshall
A fabulous evening of blues, wine and
delicious freshly prepared “bites” by a
culinary team headed by Chef Peter Bucher
made the 3rd year fund-raiser and
awareness for Autism Support Network a
big success.
Congratulations to the ASN executive
board of directors and founders Dionne
Costanzo and Jodie Wickens. They are
both parents helping parents.
Wickens mother to a 9 year old autistic
son said “The Autism Support Network’s
vision is to create a secure and inclusive
community so all of our children can reach
their own personal potential. We empower
parents to know and understand really how
to change the trajectory of their children’s
lives.”
A C$12,000 cheque was presented to
Leah Mumford, a Behaviour Analyst and
co-founder of Applied Behavioral Analysis
(ABA) Camp to fund the month long
program this summer in Surrey. The camp
was created in 2014 for autistic children to
receive a personalized one-on-one learning
experience on important social skills.
There are amazing individuals that
are being helped by the Autism Support
Network. Director for Medicare and
Autism -- parent advocate Sherri-- has
a young son diagnosed with Autism and
Epilepsy. “I believed that the only reason
that these therapies exist at all is because
our government has failed to provide the
kind of political leadership to fund, the
only scientifically validated intervention
for children which is applied behavioral
analysis.”
