Mike: Ok, so lets get the typical interview questions out of the way.

Gerard: Cool (Laughs)

Mike: So tell me a bit about the band name.

Gerard: Our band is terrible at naming things, it's like the last thing we do when it comes to naming songs or anything like that. My mom was the one that actually pitched the name Darkness Divided to us. And we thought it was the coolest thing we thought of. My mom is way more metal than we are. (Laughs) So we went with it and kept going with it. It comes from Genesis, it talks about God saw the light was good, so he divided the dark from the light. We are trying to bring a bit of a positive message to what seems like a dark community of things.(Laughs)

Mike: With all the ways that the band could have gone or follow the norm, you collectively chose to follow the christian angle with the band. Is that something that you chose from the beginning or did it develop over time?

Gerard: Definitely..Darkness Divided has had a lot of different line up changes and stuff. But the core three guys; me, the guitar player Chris, and the bass player Joe, we all came from the same background and the same kind of beliefs. We firmly believe that there's a lot of bad things going on and the world is dark and there is a lot of things going on in peoples lives. Many times when people are going through something, they feel alone. They feel like no one else knows how they feel, or no one else has ever gone through this problem before or anything

San Antonio quartet DARKNESS DIVIDED are not your typical metalcore act, blending elements of past and present American heavy metal against the anthem-loving, sing-along roots of hardcore, while keeping true to their spiritual conviction. The thunderous attack of razor sharp riffs alongside a crushing rhythmic backbone prove this band is a tour-de-force newcomer to the metal landscape.
