shortly after like a shot of tequila after a long day of tarring roofs.

Derrick Mauk- I got my start in, of all places, a karaoke bar. I used to hang out all the time and finally got the guts to sing. My first band was a hardcore band that I joined just to learn to play bass. I was in multiple cover bands throughout the years until I was asked to join Dykes on Bykes. The rest is history.

Mike: Where do you get your inspirations for your music?

Matt: There are only a few things that we really write our songs about. Women, drugs, choppers,

beer, farm trucks, mini bikes, prostitutes, doom buggies, big fucking swords, my "fucking" sword, AK-47's, El Caminos not god damn Rancheros, ‘Merica, Lone Star, grease, speed, Street

Fighter, Street Fighter II, Turbo Hyper Fighting, C4 Transmissions, wolves, beans, urination, my little pony and anything else that we feel like that day.

Mike: How do your songs take shape, and on average how long does it take the band to complete a song start to finish?

Matt: 6 months, everything we do usually takes about 6 months. I don't know why, but we are just

that slow. We usually don't go into our garage thinking we are going to write a song. We usually just get drunk, start jamming, and someone will pull a really cool riff out their ass. 6 months later we have a little fucked up Dykes on Bykes song. Then, after a few months of incubation and tweaking, we have a finished product. The whole process is highly scientific, like rocket surgery.

Mike: Of the songs in the Dykes catalog, which one would be your favorite or most meaningful and why?

Matt: I'm not sure you would call our music a catalog but my favorite song we play is Methanol. The song is truly an inspiration to be completely irresponsible and go really fast. If you ain’t first you’re last!

Mike: What are some of the plans for Dykes on Bykes for the coming year that fans can look forward to?

Matt: World domination! We are writing new songs, have a new album coming, and plenty of booze for everyone.

Mike: Is there anything you would like to say to the readers around the world as well as to your fans?

Matt: Steal your mom’s credit card and support our rock & roll and hot rod addictions. Do it!
