music and it's appealing to more people where straight hip-hop did not. Why do you feel artists are choosing to do this?
N3: It is an evolution of music. We are
growing up in an age where people are fans
of multiple genres, a far cry from earlier
where people stuck to a specific genre.
We're fans of everything now, why not put
it all together and create new music.
So how is the hip-hop scene down there in Australia? Is it just as prevalent as it is here in the States?
N3: Yeah, well
if you don't
have the
sound or the
same accent,
you are not
really
accepted in
the hip-hop
scene. They
are pretty
close to their scene
For current fans and the new fans you will be making as you tour, what can people expect from a Smacktown show?
N3: We get most of our fans from the live
shows because there is just pure, raw
energy on stage. It is something that is
rare these days from what I'm told. You
don't really get captured by the artist it's
more when they are in front of you.
With the new EP, can you tell me a little bit about the concept and the influences that went into developing the album?
N3: As far as influences, we are fans of all sorts of music. We thought we should go out there and do this and put out a good message and try to raise awareness on some of the topics going on in the world. The song 'Powerless' is about the feeling of being powerless. 'Chelsea Grin' is about a stance against corporate greed religious organizations and bankers and taking a stance against those types of organizations.
Were you always socially and globally aware while growing up?
N3: I think
from a young
age 17, the
end of high
school, I was
into these
sort of
things.
Coming from
a South American background there where some guys there and they went through the dictatorship and strong a strong military actions that caused bad things in those countries and it makes you aware that other countries don't experience that sort of thing.
With the 'Chelsea Grin video, where do you think some of the biggest misconceptions?
N3: Well, a lot of strong believers thought I was actually attacking the Christian religion and the actual belief and I had a completely different approach and was referring to the organization behind it. I see the Vatican as just another big corporation and they are wealthy. They could do larger things such as ending poverty. The religious people had a problem with it.
