D id you know these facts about early childhood development? The more you know, the better you can advocate for your child. 90 percent of a child’s brain development occurs by age 5. Children in families with incomes below the poverty line are less likely to be read aloud to daily than are children in families with incomes at or above poverty. Children in high-quality early childhood environments are four times as likely to graduate from high school or college, providing significant benefits to our future workforce. Students not reading on grade level by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of school. The more types of reading materials there are in the home, the higher students are in reading proficiency. Children who attend pre-K are two times as likely to be ready for kindergarten. Children with access to high-quality early childhood environments earn 25 percent more throughout their lifetimes and are five times less likely to rely on public assistance.
