Since its inception ovver a centuryy ago the CIM conttinues to gro ow while susttaining its vision of being the leaading and prreferred technicall institute providing “Wo orld class professio onal developm ment, netwo orking and knowledg ge sharing” f for everyone from students to all professionals work king in the minerals,, metals, matterials and energy industriees main ntenance, en ngineering an nd reliabilityy topiccs not only a among them mselves, but w with otheer CIM societties, branchees, groups along with h many otherr external bo odies including all ggovernments, non‐govern nment orgaanizations, asssociations, research gro oups and academia. T The MER Socciety and its mem mbers activelly promote t the improvem ment of m maintenance and engineeering standarrds, best t practices an nd innovatio on to increasee safetty, reliabilityy and operatiional efficien ncy. The MER Societyy also interfaaces and actiively partticipates with h other organ nizations thaat ocus on redu ucing the speccialize and fo enviironmental im mpact of all mining activvities for a a cleaner safeer world. In 1961, th he CIM Coun ncil approveed formation of the “M Mechanical‐Electrical Divvision”, and in 1984, tthe name waas changed to o the “Mainten nance and En ngineering So ociety”. Recently during the M March 2013 C CIM Council meeting, the name w was again upd dated to the “Mainten nance, Engineering and R Reliability Society (M MER)”. During the past 5 50 years of existencee the Mainten nance Engin neering and Reliabilitty Society (M MER) name w was updated to reflectt a widening and growing g mandate due to th he increasing g use of techn nology, innovatio on, research and complexxity in all aspects o of the mining g, milling, sm melting and refining p processes. The MER Societyy objectives are achieved d thro ough organizzing, particip pating or supp porting a num mber of activvities, and speccifically throu ugh three m major ongoing g initiiatives. Firstlly, the MER S Society enco ourages writiing, submittting and then n provviding peer r review of tech hnical paperrs for publlication in th he CIM Journ nal and or fo or pressentation at t the CIM “An nnual Generaal Meeeting and con nference (AG GM)”, the ME ER Sociiety “Mainten nance Engin neering and M Mine Opeerators (MeM MO)”conferen nce and at other confferences, meeetings and fo forums as requ uested.
