Plant Higher

With more than half a million people in the UK following a plant-based diet , it ’ s never been easier to be a vegan . Or tastier . Bournemouth beachfront restaurant Urban Reef and sister hotel Urban Beach have launched new vegan menus that attracted 58,000 hits on social media in just four days .

Dishes like tandoori courgette , aubergine & red onion skewers and roasted root vegetable & chestnut pearl barley risotto are going down well with vegans and converting carnivores on sight .
Head Chef at Urban Beach Hotel , Francis Baumer said : “ I initially created the dishes to celebrate Veganuary , but because of the positive response through social media , we ’ ve decided to keep the menu for the whole of 2018 . The menu incorporates all things natural and plant-based and I have used local fresh produce throughout the dishes . People are now more conscious of what they are eating when they go out for a meal and I love creating new dishes for customers , so this is really encouraging !”
Head Chef at Urban Reef Restaurant , Wayne Joyce said : “ My menu is slightly different to Urban Beach ’ s offer … Having two different menus at the Hotel and the beachfront restaurant gives an even greater choice for all our Vegan customers and we hope they will try both .”
Both venues will also be offering vegan wines including the house red and white as well as their usual non-vegan menus . For more details go to urbanguild . co . uk .
