amily-run Angel Cakes has been a feature of the Poundbury
landscape since 2007. Ten years on, and the company is just
about to consolidate the focus on catering and baking classes.
Founder Nicci Campbell (who runs the company with her sister,
Emma) shared her passion.
How did the business start?
I started decorating cakes when I was 12, and winning prizes at local
shows until the WI asked me to stop. I set up a shop and we opened in
February 2007.
Our classes now are really popular. I’ve got about 300 people on my
waiting list. It’s the ‘Bake Off’ effect, but also people are doing a lot more
home crafts at the moment.
How important are local ingredients?
We used Craig's Farm Dairy for our butter, and eggs from a local free-
range supplier. I get through about 150 eggs a week. Supermarket eggs
