So not content to just offer a great range of ales on its bar, Jenkins & Sons, the artisan bar and restaurant in Poole, has only gone and had its own beer brewed. Called Tregonwell after the founder of Bournemouth (also a smuggler on the side), it’s been produced by Bath Ales and the Beerd Brewery in Bristol. Mark Cribb, owner of Jenkins & Sons, says: “We are passionate about introducing people to real beers, both ales and lagers, made by real people, not giant international corporate faceless brands. There’s better choice and bigger flavours now and we want people to discover this for themselves.” Ryan, head barman at Jenkins & Sons, says: “Tregonwell is the first in our series of Smugglers and Pioneers bottled ales in partnership with Bath Ales and Beerd Brewery. It’s a crisp amber beer, combining clear malt flavours with hints of fruit, leaving just the right amount of bitter flavour. Customers are loving it.” Jenkins & Sons are also serving an exclusive draught ale called Yippee Kai Ale, which is also produced by Beerd Brewery in Bristol. That’s as well as six additional craft beers from local brewers including Eight Arch (Wimborne), Vibrant Forest (Lymington) and Dorset Brewing Company (Dorchester). Ideal with rare fillet steak, this aromatic, elegant Pinot works an absolute treat.
