FOR A HAPPIER,
HEALTHIER YOU,
YOU CAN…
Nature nurtures tranquility and
compassion. Korean scientists at
Chonnam National University have
found that spending some time in
nature can help us get in touch with
the natural compassion we are born
with, literally triggering more activity
in the part of the brain associated
with compassion. Not surprisingly,
they also found that urban settings
can trigger stress and anxiety.
Why is yoga so relaxing? Researchers
at Boston University School of
Medicine may have found at least part
of the answer. It seems yoga increases
the release of GABA (gamma-amino
butyric acid),the neurotransmitter
responsible for relaxation.
Immerse your mind in as much
gratitude as you can as often as
possible. It not only feels good —
it wards off the negative emotions.
That’s because the human brain
cannot be in a state of appreciation
and a state of fear at the same time,
according to positive psychology
pioneer, Dan Baker, who wrote
What Happy People Know. “During
active appreciation your brain,
heart, and endocrine system
work in synchrony and heal in
harmony,” says Baker.
