Jan. 19-Jan. 25: Jordan Wiley, Western Oregon (G, 6-6, Jr.,
McKenzie River, OR) scored 26 points in a 114-75 win at
Simon Fraser and had 15 points including a key threepointer with 1:49 left in a 90-87 victory at Western
Washington as the Wolves completed the first half of the
conference race with an 8-1 record and a one-game lead
over Seattle Pacific and Central Washington. Wiley shot
75.0 from the field (12-of-16) and also had nine rebounds,
four assists and three steals in the two wins. He made 7of-8 three-pointers against SFU equaling the second
highest total for three-pointers made in a game with just
one miss in GNAC history.
Jan. 5-11: Momir Gataric, MSU Billings (F, 6-5, Jr.,
Sunnyvale, CA – West Valley College) and Andy Avgi,
Western Oregon (F, 6-6, Jr., Woodburn, OR) … Gataric
scored 45 points and shot 72.7 percent from the floor (16of-22) as the Yellowjackets split two games defeating
Simon Fraser 111-104 Saturday for their first conference
win of the season. He had 25 points on 10 of 14 shooting
in a 88-68 loss to Western Washington before contributing
20 points, five assists and four assists against the Clan …
Avgi scored 41 points as the Wolves defeated Northwest
Nazarene and Central Washington to extend their home
win streak to eight and take over sole possession of first
place in the GNAC. Avgi made 17 of 29 shots, including a
key tip-in with 23 seconds remaining in the win against
NNU.
Jan. 26-Feb. 2: Andy Avgi, Western Oregon (F, 6-6, Jr.,
Woodburn, OR) and Derrick Fain, Alaska Anchorage (G, 64, Sr., Dallas, TX – The Master’s) … Avgi scored 46 points,
including a career-high 33 in a 94-84 overtime win against
Seattle Pacific Saturday as the Wolves opened up a twogame in the conference race with wins over Montana
State Billings and the Falcons. Avgi made 17 of 28 shots
and 11 of 12 foul shots. He also had nine rebounds, five
assists, three steals and two blocks. WOU extended its
win streak to eight games and its home win streak to 11
with the two wins … Fain scored 42 points and also had 15
rebounds as Alaska Anchorage, which plays five of its final
seven games at home, improved to 5-2 in conference road
contests with wins at Western Washington and Simon
Fraser. Fain made 13-of-22 shots, including 9-of-15 from
the three-point line. He also converted on 7-of-8 free
throws as the Seawolves shot 81.2 percent (56-of-69) from
the line.
Jan. 12-18: Kevin Rima, Northwest Nazarene (F/C, 6-7, Sr.,
Fairbanks, AK - Hutchison) and Sango Niang, Simon Fraser
(G, 6-0, Sr., Paris, France – Chaffey CC) … Rima, who is
averaging 12.2 points per game, scored 47 points and also
had 19 rebounds to lead the Crusaders to their fourth and
fifth wins in their last six games. He had 18 points and 12
rebounds, recording his 13th career double-double, in a
107-103 victory against Simon Fraser Thursday. On
Saturday, he tallied 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds
in a 80-73 conquest of Western Washington. Rima, who
made 18 of 25 field goal attempts and 11 of 13 foul shots,
helped rally NNU from double-digit second-half deficits in
both games … Niang scored 71 points, including 46 in a
104-95 loss Saturday at Central Washington. That is the
second highest single-game point total in GNAC history
trailing only Western Washington’s Ryan Diggs who scored
47 in 2006. Niang made 18 field goals equaling the GNAC
single-game record set by Gerrit Eades of Saint Martin’s in
2002. In two games, he made 27 of 46 field goal attempts
and also had 11 assists.
