During the Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival in Cordova, Alaska,
daily shuttles to Hartney Bay were offered to visitors. There, scien-
tists of the Prince William Sound Science Center were banding birds
as part of a research project.
Some visitors volunteered to extract birds from the mist nets,
which are used to capture birds without hurting them. After that,
the scientists identified, weighted and took blood samples of the
birds. Some of them already had bands, and other were banded.
