NORTH AMERICAN WETLANDS
CONSERVATION ACT (NAWCA):
PUNTA MAZO NATURE RESERVE
Refers to a United States federal grant program
created to support wetlands and wildlife conservation projects in North America.
Refers to an area that has been protected and
managed by Terra Peninsular since 2014. This reserve is located in San Quintín Bay, and it is a 4 miles
long sandbar.
SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS
SECRETARY OF ENVIRONMENT AND
NATURAL RESOURCES (SEMARNAT)
Refers to environmental problems or conflicts
that cause difficulties in social interaction such
as the lack of dialogue and participation of local
people in public decisions. In understanding the
socio-environmental problems is the key to the
appropriate management and conservation of nature.
THE FEDERAL ATTORNEY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION (PROFEPA)
Refers to the government agency that is responsible for the preservation of the environment
in Mexico.
It is responsible for the protection, conservation
and use of Mexico’s natural resources and the creation of national environmental policies for sustainable development.
VALLEY DE LOS CIRIOS
This place has been a Natural Protected Area since 1980. It is located in the municipality of Ensenada, south of San Quintín. It is characterized for
having a high number of endemic species of flora
and fauna including the boojum tree.
HABITAT PROTECTION AND MANAGEMENT
Refers to one of three programs of Terra Peninsular. It integrates the actions of natural areas protection through different legal tools such as purchase, lease or land management, its certification
as nature reserves, and the implementation of ecological protection labels.
