Ceiling Artists -- 8th Grade Girls

We are all familiar with the famous ceiling frescoes painted by artists during the High Renaissance. But how many of us are familiar with the ceiling paintings done by our own Marc Chagall in 1964 in the Paris Opera House ( Palais Garnier)? They are absolutely glorious and can certainly match in quality and style the ceiling paintings from centuries before.

Well, our 8th graders have just completed their own version of modern ceiling tiles that are now permanently displayed in the art room. We didn’t use scaffolding – don’t worry! Here is how we did it. First, the ceiling tiles were removed carefully for ease of painting, and we thank the custodial staff for their help. Then each girl had to find a quote about art or compose her own quote relating to art and then design a visual interpretation of that quote to be painted on the ceiling tile. Designs were planned, discussed and then approved by me, Mrs. Kastner, before the painting could begin. Each one is unique and meaningful and it has been a joy to see the girls working diligently, carefully, and enthusiastically on their images. Congratulations for a job well done and we invite the community to step into the art room and LOOK UP at these magnificent ceiling tiles done by our upcoming graduates.
