Happy 66th Birthday Israel!

Yom Ha'atzmaut was a resounding success, as we moved from the darkness of Yom Hazikaron to the light of Israel Independence Day (Meorah L'Afila). From grades 1-8, the day was packed with marvelous activities. The young men and women of Bnei Akiva engaged the students in grades 1-4 with pictures, stories and readings. They then participated in the production of their own original coins with Ms. Demirtas and Mrs. Kastner in the art room. These coins are currently on display at the entrance to the art room. After the art activity, the students were involved in baking their own map of Israel under the guidance of Ms. Marsha Zweiter and her assistants, Ms. Amy Gerstein, Ms. Elana Rosengard, and Ms. Laura Czillag. The experience proved to be interesting and delicious. Students in grades 5-8 were also involved in interactive activities on the establishment of the State of Israel with the members of Bnei Akiva. They later were engaged in a remarkable program on the formation of the State and the declaration by Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and the celebrations throughout the land. The highlight of the program was a talk given by our own parent, Mr. Amnon Mandelbaum, former Captain in the IDF and intelligence officer. Everyone
