Being one of the very few approved vendors
to supply signaling cables to railways, what
are the challenges of being in the league?
Yes, we are one of the few approved vendors to supply
signaling cables to Railways and it also provides other safety
cables to Railways and other government agencies which
form its primary source of revenue. Because of being one of
the few approved vendors the challenges like Quality, timely
delivery and to meet out the specifications as set out in the
Tender are immense.

What are the new markets that you are

planning to explore?
CMI Limited’s Baddi plant is a state of art technology plant.
The manufacturing facility is spread over an area of 80,000
sq meters. It’s certified Green Building with all modern and
state of the art manufacturing facilities and machineries
to manufacture various type of Cables. The plant has been
designed to reduce waste, pollution, and environmental
degradation with an energy efficiency of 20-30 per cent as
compared to other plants of similar size. Moreover it is the
only silver certified green project in India to manufacture
cables.
What has been CMI limited’s growth
percentage in the last five years?
CMI Limited is growing consistently from last 5 years. In
terms of its financials, Company has achieved an excellent
growth in the last 4-5 years at 35 per cent CAGR. In FY18
Company achieved consolidated Gross turnover of Rs. 560.00
Crs. Company’s overhead cost is comparatively less in the
industry therefore the company performance on EBIDTA level
has shown consistence performance.
What are the key factors that can aid
CMI limited to become one of the world’s
leading cable manufacturers?
Based on our expertise and continuous R&D, CMI have been
able to develop swing capacity or the fungible capacity in
both the plants at Faridabad and Baddi to cater all product
segments from the same set of plant & machineries. CMI
limited’s both the plants are designed in such a way that they
can manufacture any type of cable except for the optical fiber
cables. The company has entered into the elite group of Lead
Sheathed Cable that have an extended lifespan, making them
a reliable option for large-scale, infrastructure-related uses,
at present there are very few players worldwide to make such
type of cables. The company also does LSZH cables which are
essential in the fire prone areas to avoid any accident. CMI is
also the sole supplier for ISRO for specific cables used in Multi
object tracking system.
On domestic Level, we are continuously adding new Clientele
in the entire Industrial Sector. We are also in the process of
adding all state Electricity Boards to our portfolio besides the
EPC contractors. On the Export front , we have already sent the
trial orders to many countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka,
Bangladesh, Germany, UK, Singapore, Zambia, Switzerland,
Egypt, Qatar, Dubai etc., based on the performance of these
Trial orders , we are sure of getting some good orders very
soon.
Tell us something about your clientèle?
We have many prestigious customers on our portfolio like
Indian Railways, BHEL, NTPC, L&T, Siemens, Alstom, ISRO,
BSNL, EIL, Metro Railways, MTNL, Oil refineries and many
other PSUs besides many other EPC companies.
What is your take on the growth prospects
of the overall sector?
Almost every industry is performing well and growth is coming
from all the sectors. Smart city Concept, Indian Railways
Modernization & expansion, Expansion of Metro Projects,
Power supply in the rural areas and many other Schemes
implemented by the Government has really boosted the
Demand for cables.
CMI developed cables for Delhi Metro
with special LSZH compound; can you
brief us about the specifications of the
cable?
Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) Cables essentially, the
compound used in manufacturing cables meeting the above
specification reduces the amount of dangerous/poisonous
gases in case of fire; toxic fumes could pose a risk to human
health thus LSZH cables are essential in the fire prone areas
to avoid any accident.
