About
Memorial Day is on May 28th this year. While the three-day week-
end leaves ample time for backyard grilling, gatherings with
friends and family and generally kicking off summer, the time
often passes without much thought about the service men and
women to which the holiday is devoted. This year, make a point to
reflect upon and honor the heroes–active, retired and fallen–
who’ve sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms. Here are a few
ways to do just that.
Visit the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in
Boulder City. It’s home to a recently installed Korean War
Veterans Memorial featuring a 7,220-pound monument honoring
those who served in the Korean War, including 37 Nevadans.

Strike Out to Help Homeless Youth
Calling all superheroes and vigilantes!
Your presence is requested at Nevada
Partnership for Homeless Youth’s 9th
Annual Homeless Youth in the Alley
Bowling Tournament. The 2018 affair
promises twice the action with a
brand‐new night time tournament
in addition to the usual daytime superhero fanfare.
The additional event means more people can participate in this
worthy cause, choosing whether they want to be a superhero by day
or vigilante by night, and, naturally, dress accordingly (optional).
Both will include unlimited bowling, food, giveaway items, raffle
prizes, a photo booth, awards and more, but night time is the right
time for cosmic bowling and a live DJ.
Participate as an individual and join a team or form your own team
of five! When the pins are reset, and the frames are all marked,
your efforts and donations will help NPHY raise much needed
funds for programming that provides basic survival needs and
helps homeless youth get on a path toward self‐sufficiency. Both
events will be held on Saturday, June 9th at the Suncoast Bowling
Center (9090 Alta Dr.). Register at www.nphy.org/hya.

Americans “voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a
moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever
they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to Taps.”
