CEO Unplugged: A Look at the Leader - Terry Dunning
F

Founder C.P. Terry Dunning defines his leadership
style at our next CEO Unplugged, sponsored by the
Grand Victoria Casino. The luncheon will be held Thursday,
May 3, at the Grand Victoria Casino pavilion,

This CEO Unplugged luncheon gives you the oppor-
tunity to learn what made this CEO successful and
adapt his leadership tips into your own business. Our
format will include an informal interview with this
community leader ranging from risks he has taken to
what keeps him up at night, and more. We’ll then ask
a quick fire-round of questions and you’ll even have a chance to
ask your questions! You will walk away with tidbits of advice
from Terry you can implement in your own business right away.
Throughout his life, Terry Dunning has received awards
and accolades, statewide, nationally and internationally for
his profession and company, Dunning’s Auction Service.
The Dunning family legacy dates back to1896 when Frank
Dunning began selling
livestock to supplement
his farming income. By
the 1920s, the company
was handling real estate
and furniture. In the 1960s,
Dunning’s
added
fine
art
and
antiques.
This local businessman, nationally recognized as a member
of the National Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame,
remained committed to Elgin through a lifetime of community
service. As a local business owner, Terry served as
Board Chair of the Elgin Area Chamber in 1994 and
was a long-time volunteer with our organization.
He has led many board and committee positions
at many notable Elgin institutions, including First
United Methodist Church, Rotary Club of Elgin,
founding director of the First Community Bank,
which was acquired by Wintrust last year and
former chair of the Sherman Hospital board, where
he continues volunteering at the hospital today.
He remains active in service to his community and he
is a friend to local social service agencies and others,
continuing to use his auctioneering talents to assist in
fundraising at charitable events such as the Community Crisis
Center’s Annual Auction and Gala, Elgin Community Col-
lege’s Pearl Gala and Centro de Informacion’ s Annual Auction.
