ered Osceola turkey. With the flight into Orlando, we couldn’t wait to get on the ground and see this great landscape we had heard so much about. We were even more excited that we didn’t have to go to Disney World while frequenting the same airport! Unlike a Magical Kingdom experience, generally speaking, on hunting expeditions, you get to your outfitter and they tell you, “You should’ve been here last weekend!”, “This moon phase is going to make it difficult this week!”, or “Man, it’s never usually like this!” After years of hearing the same lines, your expectations become such that you anticipate arriving behind the eight ball and will need to fight to come out on top. This trip was an exception to that rule. We nailed it perfectly with weather, gobbling birds, movement, moon, and whatever else plays into a perfect hunt. Long story short, all three of us got great gobblers the first evening, and even scored my tom with a bow. The birds were everywhere, responding to calls, strutting, drumming, chasing, gobbling, flying, feeding, decoying, and all we had to do was just wait for the zig to meet the zag. Danny and Carla SantAngelo, the owners of Okeechobee Outfitters, have a unique situation down in Florida. They run a great hunting lodge, have a nice family run organization, but have a sensitive spot for our military veterans. They open their doors for veterans and their families with their non-profit organization, Sportsmen’s Foundation for Military Families. This organization is for veterans of all military branches to have that therapeutic experience of the out- doors. Most weeks of the year, Danny and Carla are welcoming a family or two of veterans at their lodge. The passion exudes through everyone working there for the gratitude of those that served our country.
