Moving into May , we are back to the transition . I ’ ve already noticed the fish moving around . The water temp has been rising , and we ’ ve been catching trout scattered all over . Putting together a box full of trout can be tough in this month . The secret is this : do not stay in one place too long with no bite thinking something should be there . Getting into inner lakes and drifting through them is where we ’ ve been finding our fish . Find an area of a little deeper water in the lakes and drift it . A good way to find these deep channels is to follow the crab traps . Crabbers will place them in the areas of deeper water in these lakes . As you drift , you will pick up several fish in one spot ; as soon as they stop biting , pick up the Power-Pole and keep moving . When you get to the other side , pick up and start over . By doing this stick and move pattern , you ’ ll fill the box in no time . For redfish , my Shallow Sport Boat has given me the advantage on them now . I can chase reds back in the ponds with clear water , and sight cast to them cruising the banks . Tie on your favorite color Matrix Shad , and go search for the bronze backs .

We are on the verge of the summer season and by the end of the month it will be in full swing . Birds are moving and following bait to the outside . When you see them diving approach slowly and you might very well fill your box on that stop .
If weather is normal the fish will transition further to the outside as we get deeper in the month . Begin fishing in Bay Lafourche , Oak River Bay and Lake Campo in the early part of the month . Look for major outflow as this will likely be where the shrimp will be moving with the tide . Redfish are spread out throughout the marsh and if the wind is blowing pass a good time catching them from Lost Lake all the way out to Four Horse Lake and Lake Campo . Your kids and grandkids will be out of school soon and you should plan a trip with them as they need less time with the Xbox and more time with tackle boxes .
