The proposition was an interplay between two different and opposite color temperature white LED light sources, no artificial colors. Bluish cool white, 6500K, in the main ceiling and in the ceilings of the two side chapels, against yellowish warm white, 3000K, for the altarpiece and the retables of the chapels. This schema creates a monumental contrast between the classical symbolism of Heaven and Earth in churches, enhancing the timeless, otherwise obscured, stone ceilings. About energy savings, we came from 9000W down to 600W, with a much longer expected life and no maintenance for years. Installation was accomplished using the existing electrical points. No new cabling was allowed, neither new holes in the 500+ years old stones, and an innovative casambi wireless Bluetooth mesh network is in control of the installation. Now the minister, from a smartphone/tablet, can really enlighten the congregation.
As a result of the lighting intervention, the new lighting of this renaissance church from the sixteenth century is giving enlightenment and new life to an old village in the countryside of Spain. It's small population and visitors say now that they have a Cathedral, not a church anymore. And with the Award of Merit of the IES Farasdues has achieved an international visibility never devised before. All together, this is a real manifestation of the power of Light, giving sense to the name of the church, "the Lady of Hope". Let’s take it the other way around: “corpore sano in mens sana”.
