Dr. Octavio L. Perez is a passionate professional and scholar who contributes to exploring, developing and bringing to the real world the benefits of light and lighting for human well being and wellness, and ultimately health, integrating in this vision the traditional visual and aesthetic principles of lighting, altogether with energy savings and sustainability values.

As a seasoned professional, lecturer and researcher in the built environment, and having a unique interdisciplinary knowledge and experience, he has the leadership and expertise required to agglutinate and coordinate the different actors and layers of integrative lighting systems in complex environments, such as healthcare, with the goal of conducting performance verification and achieving measurable values.

He works internationally as an independent consultant, focused in human centric lighting (HCL), more precisely “affective lighting”. Currently developing the HCL business intelligence for LLEDO Lighting in Spain, he is also an adjunct researcher at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC, where he completed his doctoral research with funding from NIH (National Institutes of Health).

Dr. Perez serves in several international technical committees in professional organizations such as IES (illuminating engineering society), IEA (international ergonomics association) and NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association of North America).

He is a mechanical engineer by training in Spain, holds a graduate certificate in Lighting from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, and a MS and a Ph.D in Multidisciplinary Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), New York, USA. He has been educated in training, marketing and business management, entrepreneurship, and technology and innovation management and commercialization. Dr. Perez is also a WELL AP, WELL Building Standard Accredited Professional, and an active lecturer and participant in international conferences and workshops. He is currently working on the LEED and fit well credentials.
