The Fluoride Controversy

From Dr. Curatola's book "The Mouth-Body Connection"

I could not write a chapter on toxins without weighing in on the fluoride controversy. Fluoride, which is derived from one of the single most reactive nonradioactive elements on the Periodic Table of Elements, was added to the water supply in the United States in the 1940s for the purpose of reducing cavities. The sacred cow of preventive dentistry, fluoride has been promoted as one of the top ten most important public health measures in the twentieth century.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 90 percent of the fluoride added to public water supplies is actually not sodium fluoride at all. It is fluorosilicic acid, a waste product that comes from chemicals produced as by-products from the manufacture of phosphate fertilizers and aluminum manufacturing. Fluorosilicic acid is used in manufacturing commercial detergents such as cryolite, silicon tetrafluoride, and other fluosilicates. Its corrosive acidic nature leaches the lead and arsenic from water delivery plumbing, which is suspected happened with the toxic water in Flint, Michigan. On the other hand, sodium fluoride in toothpastes and other products is an ingredient in rat and roach poisons and industrial pesticides. Sodium fluoride also serves as a key component of anesthetic, hypnotic, and psychiatric drugs.

Under the banner of Preventive Dentistry, most Americans are really being “medicated” with industrial waste products that are already poisoning the environment.

Roughly 99 percent of fluoridated water never touches our teeth. It is used for showering, watering crops, and washing clothes.
