Élisabeth Auger -Voyer New st English/French arti Workshops Observational Drawing Create a 3D insect A class will choose to create a butterfly*, honeybee or ladybug in this workshop. Students will work with paper and oil pastels or coloured pencils to create a three dimensional insect, based on the true anatomy of the insect. During the workshop, the artist will explain the characteristics of the insect and will guide students in learning various techniques of colour application and assembly. The butterfly becomes a mobile, which can be manipulated like a marionette; the ladybug explores origami techniques and the honeybee focuses on cutting techniques and assembly. Materials: $2.50 + HST per student GRADES : 3 - 6 MAxIMuM : 30 STuDENTS HALF DAY : TWO 75 MINuTE SESSIONS $310 + HST $410 + HST FuLL DAY : THREE 75 MINuTE SESSIONS * the butterfly is recommended for Grades 5 and 6. Élisabeth will demonstrate techniques in colour drawing while guiding the students in drawing a Canadian animal or plant, previously chosen by the teacher. The artist will discuss the anatomy of the subject encouraging the students to observe and learn about the different parts of the plant or the animal. Depending on the age of the group, the artist will adapt the approach offering techniques such as colour layering and exploring colours in both shadow and light. Using mineral spirits, students will complete the project by creating a background that resembles a painting. Materials: $2.60 + HST per student.
