Daniel Richer English/French Storytelling Performances Papoose Aki (Grades: JK - 3) In the sixth season the Elders gathered children around the fire and using the “Bag of Mystery” shared the legends and lessons of Mother Earth. Young students will enjoy this storytelling performance, which includes First Nations Sign language, a sign language game, songs and a dance of friendship. MAxIMuM : 100 STuDENTS ONE PERFORMANCE : 45 MINuTES $365* + HST $565* + HST TWO PERFORMANCES : SAME SCHOOL IN ONE DAY T HE D REAM C ATCHER AND THE W OLF (Grades: 3 - 12/sec V) Daniel brings students the richness of aboriginal culture and history through his knowledge of Mother Earth, Turtle Island's great teacher. His legends and stories speak of respect and harmony among all living things and demonstrate how everyone is part of the sacred circle of life. Seven Tales for Seven Teachings (Grades: K - 8/sec II) Daniel will guide students along the path of his Elders. Seven interactive stories and seven animal totems offer tools to be used in daily life. MAxIMuM : 200 STuDENTS ONE PERFORMANCE : 1 HOuR $590* + HST TWO PERFORMANCES : SAME SCHOOL IN ONE DAY $990* + HST Workshops Making Talking Sticks (Grades: 3 - 12/sec V) Tribes of Turtle Island kept records of events and reflected on themselves by making talking sticks, or story sticks. These were smooth, flat or round sticks with drawn or burned pictures and decorated with sinew and feathers. Through a little introspection, each participant will make their own talking stick. Materials: $2.50 + HST per student Map to Legend Writing (Grades: 2 - 8/sec II) Daniel will share his legends, focusing on composition, characters and scenes. Students will then interpret their own versions of these legends through their own writing and illustration, drawing inspiration from Native paintings.
