Leslie McCurdy Available: March 18 – 22, 2019 Performances The Spirit of Harriet Tubman A powerful one-woman show explores the life of Harriet Tubman, a hero of the underground railway and a tireless worker for social justice. Issues examined include racism, gender, personal integrity and the importance of social commitment. Things My Fore-Sisters Saw Students will meet four women of African descent who affected significant social change in Canada: Marie-Joseph Angelique, a slave in Montreal; Rose Fortune, the first policewoman in North America; Mary-Ann Shad, educator and journalist; Viola Desmond who wouldn't give in to segregation. Students will understand how these women affected change in Canada and how their actions have shaped our lives. G RADES : 6 - 12/ SEC V MAxIMuM : 300 STuDENTS ONE PERFORMANCE : 1 HOuR $715* + HST Harriet is My Hero Stories of the life of Harriet Tubman are revealed while examining the characteristics that make her a good hero. Students actively participate in re-creating some of the aspects of the story and dolls are used to illustrate the various ages of Harriet Tubman.
