Bus Trip Fans Witness Rare Rider Win

Shanine Sealey , Martensville Messenger
A group of residents from Martensville and surrounding areas boarded a bus at the Martensville Sports Centre Sunday , September 18th . The group came together to embark on a journey to Regina to take part in the City of Martensville ’ s annual Roughrider trip . The bus departed shortly after 9am , and fans were already getting excited to cheer on the Riders , except for one Eskimo fan , who bravely hitched a ride in a bus full of green . ( Don ’ t worry ; he made it there mostly unscathed ).
Each year , the Martensville Recreation Department organizes the trip , and fans are able to pay for their admission , which includes the bus trip , a Subway lunch , their game day ticket , and a KFC supper . In addition , fans come together to share in a comradery that comes with being a Rider fan . This year , the packed bus helped to raise approximately $ 600 , all of which will go towards KidSport™ , a not-for-profit organization which helps to provide financial assistance for registration fees and equipment for children aged 18 and under . “ It is a great community event , and we are hoping that next year with the new stadium , we will be able to sell out two buses ,” Angie Reddekopp , City of Martensville Recreation Program Supervisor , stated .
This year marks the 8th consecutive year that the Rider trip has taken place . “ We usually have a good core group of people that come , but there are always new people that come on board . Everyone is really positive , they are all there to cheer on the Riders ,” Reddekopp added .
With Rider fans suffering through a rough past two seasons , those that have taken part in the annual event , have been fortunate enough to witness their beloved team win . “ We have a great track record and tend to win whenever we go ,” laughed Reddekopp .
