Martensville High School a Hub of Activity

This weekend MHS athletes and staff were very busy as they played host to a number of activities . The weekend started with a Junior volleyball tournament at the Athletic Pavilion on Friday . The grade 9 girls , coached by Quelsa Oliver and Sara Shepherd , played well bringing home the silver while Dalmeny won the tournament .

The CFL is back to its usual self , the Riders lost and the Stamps had a blowout win . Week 18 started on Friday with a big win in Calgary . The Stampeders handled Argos with ease in a 31-13 victory . Ricky Ray passed for 311 yards and two interceptions in the losing effort . Calgary ’ s Jerome Messam was a work horse for the Stamps and ran for 111 yards on 10 carries . The second game of the evening was the opposite . The Hamilton Tiger-Cats needed overtime to defeat the RedBlacks in Ottawa . Both quarterbacks had fantastic nights with Henry Burris passing for 418 yards , 3 touchdowns , and two interceptions . Jeremiah Masoli had the same amount of TD ’ s and INT ’ s but threw for 359 yards in the 39-36 win . The first game on Saturday saw the Roughriders struggle against the only team below them in the standings . The Montreal Alouettes beat the Riders 19-14 on a rainy day in Regina . Alouettes quarterback Vernon Adams Jr . made his first CFL start and came away with a win . Adams Jr . threw for 177 yards , one touchdown and an interception in his rookie debut . In the final game of the week , the BC Lions clinched their spot in the West Semi-final . This means the Eskimos will more than likely cross over to the East for playoffs . This could mean the possibility of an all- Alberta Grey Cup .
The first full week of the NHL is in the books and you wouldn ’ t believe who is atop the standings . Yes it ’ s early but the Edmonton Oilers are leading the NHL with their young Captain Connor McDavid . McDavid and the Oilers headed to Hamilton last weekend for the heritage Classic outdoor also playing at home this weekend and hosted a oneday tournament on Saturday . The games started at 8:00am with teams travelling from Clavet , Delisle , and Aden Bowman ( Saskatoon ). Martensville played Aden Bowman at 9:00 and won both sets of their opening games . They faced Clavet in their second match and split the games winning both of their next sets and were in the final against Aberdeen . They won their match and the gold medals . minute overtime periods . The game remained tied up until the last two minutes when RJC had a penalty kick that found the goal and gave them the 4-3 lead . The Royals ran out of time and lost a heartbreaker . The Martensville girls played hard and had breakaways that somehow found the posts a few times during the game . game against the Winnipeg Jets at Investors Group field in Hamilton . The Oilers took that one 3-0 but more people were talking about the star-studded alumni game on Saturday . The game included the talents of Mark Messier , Curtis Joseph , Dale Hawerchuck , Teemu Salanne and the Great One himself , Wayne Gretzky . The warm Saturday afternoon was perfect for the players and the fans to enjoy the game . The game got competitive and was tied until just 3 seconds left in the third while Teemu Salanne scored on a penalty shot to lift the Jets to 6-5 . Also some great news for the Penguins as their captain Sidney Crosby was at his first full practice since his concussion just before the season started . It ’ s unsure when he will return to games but this is a huge sigh of relief for Pittsburgh and many fantasy hockey users .
NFL football week 7 finished up on Monday night with the Denver Broncos taking on the Houston Texans . After this week there are no longer any undefeated teams . The Minnesota Vikings lost their first game this Sunday against Philadelphia . The game was highlighted by a 98- yard kick return touchdown in the second quarter to put the Eagles in the lead .

They travel to North Battleford for Regionals on November 12 .
The Girls soccer team , coached by Carryn Berk and Breanne Cooper , hosted the soccer regionals on Saturday as well on Wilson Field . They played RJC from Rosthern in their game and they fought hard . They were down 2-1 at the half and came back to take the lead 3-2 in the fourth quarter . Rosthern tied things up late in the fourth to force the game to two fiveone . Coach Carryn Berk was so pleased and proud of the girls ’ play . “ They kept fighting until the end ,” commented Berk . “ The cards did not fall in our favour and it wasn ’ t for lack of effort . They stayed through and fought through both overtime halves .” The team is relatively young with only two grade 12 ’ s so there is something to build on next season . Both VCA and Rosthern advance to the Provincials next weekend .
The Royals Football team had a great season and earned the opportunity to host the first round of playoffs . The North Battleford Crusaders came to town as the Royals played their first game on Wilson Field Saturday afternoon . The staff came together this week to get the uprights cemented in and field lined to make the field ready for the game . Principal Brad Nichol said a few words of thanks before the game , especially to Lyle Wilson , for his generous contribution to the field . There were many other businesses that contributed to get this field up and running as well .

Public notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Martensville , pursuant to Section 207 of the Planning and Development Act , 2007 , intends to consider a bylaw to amend Zoning Bylaw No . 1-2015 .
REASON : This amendment is reduce parking allocations in the MB - Business Industrial District .
