Air Cadets Host Open House
The 574 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron held a recruiting night at the North Ridge Centennial Community Centre Thursday , October 20th from 7pm to 9pm . “ We are hosting the first open house to find out how many young people in the area are interested in joining the Air Cadet Squadron . We are transferring the squad from Choiceland to Martensville . Choiceland is up near Nipawin and membership went down there to six kids and the military does not allow that . It ' s much easier to move than to start a new chapter from scratch ,” Larry Sinnett of the Air Cadet Squadron , explained .
The group found that Martensville was open to the idea and looked around and found facilities to use . They have two officers from Martensville , as well two squadrons in Saskatoon have volunteered a couple of senior cadets to help with initial startup .
Anyone aged 12 to 18 can join the Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron , where they will learn a vast array of skillsets , with something for everyone from outdoor skills , physical skills , musical skills and more . Royal Canadian Air Force organization and rank system are used within the Air Cadets , although Cadets are not members of the Canadian Forces .
Cadet training includes leadership , marching , aerodynamics , teamwork , decision making , learning to work with others , and follow orders . The adult volunteers will also have to set up a support committee for fundraising . The Kinsmen Club has stepped in to partially sponsor start-up costs and the Cadets are seeking more sponsors .
