The Calgary Stampeders have officially clinched first place in the West Division after their 13th straight win . The Stamps are in a league of their own right now as they have not been defeated since week one making their unbeaten streak 14 in a row . Bo Levi Mitchell became the first QB to do that and has tied the alltime record of 12 winning starts in a row . With just three games remaining in the season , Calgary has a shot at the best record for an 18-game season in CFL history . The Stamps claimed their 12th victory over the Toronto Argonauts in a game that wasn ’ t even close . Calgary jumped out to a 19-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back enroute to a 48-20 beat down . Once again on Monday morning the East lost . Edmonton defeated the Montreal Alouettes by a score of 40-20 . Edmonton receiver John White led the attack with 145 yards and two TD ’ s . Friday night was a fight between the Riders and RedBlacks . Somehow , Saskatchewan was able to pull off their third win in a row . It wasn ’ t easy though , the Riders blew a 22-7 lead with under ten minutes to go in the game . Henry Burris came in for Ottawa and tied the game with just 2:52 remaining . Darian Durant responded with a 27- yard TD pass to Rob Bagg with 48 seconds to go . Sasky kicker Tyler Crapigna put the kickoff out of bounds and gave the RedBlacks good enough field position to strike back . After a pass interference call , Ottawa completed the drive with a 1-yard run to send the game to overtime . RedBlacks kicker Chris Milo missed a 30-yard field goal and Roughrider kicker Tyler Crapigna won the game with a 39-yard field goal to make the final score 32-30 . Despite B . C . quarterback Jonathon Jennings throwing for 422 yards on Saturday , the Lions took a loss against the Blue Bombers . Winnipeg improves to 9-6 on the season with the 37-35 win . After a 4-0 week , my picks are up to 30-11 on the year . My week 17 picks are Hamilton , Winnipeg , Calgary , and Saskatchewan .
The Blue Jays are in the playoffs and they sure are making it fun to watch . The Jays clinched a Wild Card birth last week and went on to play an all-or-nothing game against the Baltimore Orioles on October 4th . Edwin Encarnacion belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to walk-it-off for the Blue Jays . Up next was the American League Division Series against the Rangers . Seem familiar ? It should be as the Jays defeated the Rangers in last years ALDS , remember ? The famous Bautista bat flip ? This ALDS was no less exciting as the Jays won the first two games in blowout fashion to take the series back to Canada . On Sunday the Stadium was a buzz with the possibility of a sweep . It took extra innings but the Jays got it done . Josh Donaldson scored from second on what looked to be an inningending double play , until Rangers

U of S are Golden

The U of S Ladies Softball team clinched the Western Collegiate playoffs in Calgary October 2 and played host to the University Nationals this past weekend . Mother Nature didn ’ t cooperate , as the fields were covered in snow so the whole event moved indoors to the golf dome . The U of S came out strong with a win in their first game but lost their second in extra innings . Their last game in the round robin against the Calgary Dinos was a 4-0 win that clinched them first in their pool . They faced the University of Regina in the semi final and won 2-0 earning a spot in the National Final against Western University from London , Ontario . The game was evenly matched and once again went into extra innings . The Lahti sisters got the job done with Dana Lahti hitting a single scoring her sister Clair from third to win the gold . It was exciting to win at home with the crowd behind them .
Kayla DeCorby from Martensville is in her last year with the team so this was a great way to finish for her . “ This was my final game of my University career and being able to not only win the national title but in extra innings on our home turf was an amazing experience . I wouldn ’ t want to go out any other way ”, commented DeCorby . C o n g r a t u l a t i o n s to DeCorby and the University of Saskatchewan Softball Team , bringing home gold and the National Title .
second baseman Rougned Odor messed up the throw to first leaving Russel Martin safe at first and Donaldson safe at home . The Jays now move on to the American League Championship Series where they will take on the Cleveland Indians on Friday October 14th . The Indians swept the Boston Red Sox in the other ALDS . While the ALDS was a best-of-five series , the ALCS is a best-of-seven and will truly test the durability of the players .
The NHL regular season started Wednesday with four games on the block . Before that however , big news out of Calgary was announced Monday as the Flames sign forward Johnny Gaudreau . “ Johnny Hockey ” signed a sixyear , $ 40.5 million dollar contract that adds up to about $ 6.75 million per year . The All-Star winger was 6th in league scoring last year with 30 goals , 48 assists for a total of 78 points . More big news out of Pittsburgh as Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby is out with a concussion . The Penguins aren ’ t sure how long he will be out of the lineup but they are in no way going to rush him back .
NFL week five finished off on Monday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beating the Carolina Panthers by a score of 17-14 . After five weeks , there is only one team in the NFL that has yet to lose . The Minnesota Vikings improved to 5-0 after a decisive
