At the open house, they displayed informational material and asked residents to contribute their thoughts by filling out a survey. The goal of the open house was to gain public feedback to help plan the transportation master plan for Martensville’s future. Key objectives are; to define a transportation network that is sustainable, safe and efficient for both existing and 2040 horizons, examine the potential road and pedestrian infrastructure requirements to serve future development, reserve right-of-way for future transportation needs and identify staging opportunities for future network upgrades. “The TMP will provide a comprehensive assessment of the existing traffic conditions and develop short-term (5 years), medium term (10 years) and long term (25 years) improvement strategies to ensure that the City is ready for future growth,” Joe Doxey, City of Martensville Director of Infrastructure and Planning, explained. At the open house, the City of Martensville provided a detail list of current issues that our City is facing such as; capacity issues at the main city access, operation of key intersections along both Centennial Drive and Main Street, heavy vehicle routes along Centennial Drive, connectivity of pedestrian facilities, parking along Centennial Drive and in school zones, concerns regarding traffic speed and potential need for additional traffic calming measures and failure to obey traffic controls (i.e. stop sign). “The City will be looking for input from the public to identify transportation concerns, conflict or congestion areas,” Doxey stated. The City is hopeful that the residents input will help reinforce the background data that will form the eventual plan. Once the report has been completed, there will be a second open house held, where the findings and final report will be presented and residents will have an opportunity to see how their input has shaped the future transportation plans for the City. “Having a plan for accommodating traffic is imperative to maintaining a road network that is safe and efficient for our motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, etc.” The survey can be found at https://www. surveymonkey.com/r/TMPMartensville.
