All Submissions provided by Venture Heights and Valley Manor School VHS Holds Educational Associates Conference Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger Venture Heights School held a conference for Educational Associates from within the Prairie Spirit School Division, as well as surrounding school divisions Friday, October 7th. This was a first for the conference; however, Amber Kraus, a grade 3 teacher at VHS, is hopeful that this will become an annual event. “The re used to be a big conference in Edmonton that EA’s could attend, “The aim of the conference was to give EA’s a but that is no longer around, so professional development chance to gain some new understanding in topics they opportunities are few and far between for our Educational encounter during their jobs, such as dealing with students Associates. Keynote speaker Brian Gislason, who is a retired teacher and superintendent, spoke about the important roles that EA’s play in student lives and how sometimes those students don’t have anyone else looking out for them. Gislason’s emotional presentation brought many in the room to tears. Other speakers included the School Resource Officer, Constable Sean Nave and Jarid Brown, the PSSD Employee Relations Manager. The afternoon sessions were either a full two hours, or one hour each and EA’s were able to choose based on their interest.
